USCIS Begins Issuing Redesigned Documents

February 06, 2023

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced new designs for Permanent Resident Cards (Green Cards) and Employment Authorization Documents (EADs). Cards featuring the new design will be issued beginning January 30, 2023. In an effort to mitigate fraud and counterfeiting, USCIS redesigns EADs and Green Cards every three (3) to five (5) years.

The new Green Card and EAD designs include:

  • State-of-the-art technology that continues to safeguard national security and improve service for USCIS customers;
  • Improved detailed artwork;
  • New tactile printing that is better integrated with the artwork;
  • Enhanced optically variable ink;
  • Highly secure holographic images on the front and back of the cards;
  • A layer-reveal feature with a partial window on the back photo box; and
  • Data fields displayed in different places than on previous versions.

Current cards remain valid until their expiration date and remain eligible for auto-extensions, where applicable. Green Cards and EADs issued after January 30 may continue to display the previous design while USCIS works through the existing supplies. Both versions of the cards are acceptable for Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification; E-Verify; and Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE).
